History

In 1972, two separate Virginia companies with similar operating philosophies and a single dream opened their doors to the public. As Bill McAllister was busy launching Colonial Mechanical in Richmond, Howard Webb, Sr. was starting Webb Technologies in Norfolk.

From day one, their dreams were clear:

  • Delighted clients
  • Fulfilled employees
  • Quality work

More than 30 years later, these principles are more important to us than ever. Our vision is the same, but nearly everything else has changed:

  • In 1999, Webb Technologies and Colonial Mechanical became subsidiaries of First Energy Corporation, the fourth largest power company in the United States.
  • In 2003, the Webb family bought back both Webb Technologies and Colonial Mechanical.
  • In 2005, the two divisions formally merged – creating ColonialWebb Contractors.
  • Today, ColonialWebb Contractors is Virginia’s largest electrical and mechanical contractor with nearly $175 million in annual sales.

We are known for quality and service, leading our industry in:

With a team of 1,400 employees we’re a long way from our roots, but we’ve never strayed from our core values.

Service and quality are the hallmarks of our business. By recruiting, training and rewarding the best people in our industry, we’ve built a client roster that makes us tremendously proud.

We know the same attention to detail and entrepreneurial spirit that got us started in 1972 is required to fuel our future success. For those in search of mechanical and electrical contracting, we’re bigger, better, stronger and faster – and the best is yet to come.
