Correctional

Project:
Dare County Correctional Center, Dare County, North Carolina

The Challenge:
Situated on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the Dare County Correctional Center also serves as the area’s emergency operations center in the event of a hurricane. A second-floor office and conference area are designated for the purpose of the emergency operations headquarters.

The Dare County Correctional Center hired ColonialWebb Contractors to design and install an air conditioning system for the designated space to operate in extreme weather conditions.

Our Approach:
With careful consideration of likely power outages and heavy use during hurricane conditions, ColonialWebb Contractors developed and installed a system that would meet high, concentrated demand.

We retrofitted two separate conference areas and the server room with supplemental split systems. Our technicians sized the systems based on the actual load for heat typically generated by emergency communications systems and the number of emergency personnel.

We connected each electrical load to an emergency power system, which is supported by a generator in the event of power loss due to hurricane conditions. ColonialWebb now maintains the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.
