Project:
Building NH-95, Virginia

The Challenge:
Building NH-95 is the military’s East Coast communications facility and once served as a temporary home for the United States’ Director of Homeland Security. ColonialWebb Contractors replaced a complete HVAC system while remaining sensitive to the highly secure operations performed at all times in the building.

Our Approach:
To ensure no disruptions, ColonialWebb carefully detailed a work schedule with the building’s tenants and performed shutdowns at night and on weekends.

ColonialWebb installed a new DDC control system and new VAV boxes throughout the facility. We completed several modifications to the building’s electrical system, and we managed to reduce costs by re-tubing an existing 500-ton Carrier chiller.

Our mechanical work included removing and replacing a:

  • 650-ton Carrier chiller
  • 650-ton cooling tower with its respective pumps and pipes
  • Custom-built air handling units and associated ductwork

In-house personnel performed all duties associated with the HVAC, insulation and electrical systems. Subcontractors handled testing and balancing as well as crane and rigging requirements.
