Design Build

Project:
Federal Correctional Institute, Petersburg, Virginia

The Challenge:
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) enlisted the services of ColonialWebb Contractors for its design/build project at the Federal Correctional Institute in Petersburg. The institute accommodates about 1,600 inmates on its 44-acre site.

Our Approach:
ColonialWebb planned carefully to analyze the needs and requirements to successfully operate systems within this highly secure campus. There are about 500,000 square feet of housing and office spaces which are located within 18 separate buildings.

The central utility plant has a 1,850 boiler horsepower and 1,300 tons of cooling capacity. ColonialWebb installed:

  • More than 400,000 pounds of sheet metal
  • 10 miles of copper and cast iron piping
  • Six miles of hydronic and steam piping
  • 2,500 plumbing fixtures

We completed the project to the FBOP standards for a medium-security correctional institute.
