Education

Project:
Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia

The Challenge:
ColonialWebb Contractors responded to an emergency call from VCU during the university’s Christmas break. In the school’s athletic facility, a piping connection broke loose and flooded the entire facility sub-basement. The incident destroyed mechanical and electrical systems and damaged the swimming pool’s water treatment system.

With only 10 days before students returned and 11 days before the next scheduled swim meet, ColonialWebb was contracted to complete the project.

Our Approach:
ColonialWebb mobilized quickly and immediately set up temporary emergency pumping systems to remove water and assess damage.

We replaced:

  • Four pumps and all associated piping modifications
  • Chemical water treatment system for the pool
  • Two exhaust fans
  • Pool lighting systems

We had the swimming pool fully operational in only eight days, and the meet took place as scheduled.
