Client:
Fairfax County Courthouse, Fairfax, Virginia
The Challenge:
The Fairfax County Courthouse is getting a new addition and a major facelift over the next two years. Workers are constructing a five-story, 316,000 square-foot building beside the existing Jennings Courthouse, which will be renovated. The final phase will connect the new and the old building.
When the project is complete, the Fairfax County Courthouse will have 15 new courtrooms, nine renovated courtrooms, 14 new elevators, larger holding cells and an enhanced security system.
The new building will need plumbing and HVAC systems, and the renovated Jennings Courthouse will need new air handling units (AHUs) and variable air volume (VAV) systems.
Our Approach:
ColonialWebb Contractors developed a comprehensive solution to address all aspects of the project’s HVAC and plumbing needs.
We’re installing all of the plumbing and HVAC components for the new five-story building. In the existing Jennings Courthouse, ColonialWebb Contractors will replace all AHUs and VAVs systems as well as selected ductwork.
Both buildings will utilize a new Trane DDC energy management system featuring Trane and Liebert AHUs. The new building’s ductwork system will include a variety of duct shapes up to 20 feet wide. All VAVs in the new building will have hot water reheat, and the old building will have electric reheat.
ColonialWebb will install:
- Three Trane chillers with a total of 1,585 tons of capacity
- Three cooling towers on the roof
- Two heating hot water boilers with a capacity of 17 million BTUs
- An 8,000 gallon fuel system to supply the boilers and generator
- Underground gas piping for gas streets lights around the complex
