Project:
Omni Hotel, Richmond, Virginia

The Challenge:
The Omni Hotel engineering staff needed to replace several large air handling systems due to age and inefficiency. All equipment was located in a mechanical space atop the 300-room, 19-story hotel.

The hotel in downtown Richmond hired ColonialWebb Contractors to execute the replacement within a single weekend with minimal inconvenience to the guests.

Our Approach:
To tackle this project, ColonialWebb had to carefully orchestrate the removal and installation of all the equipment. Teams used a 120-ton crane, which required street closure permitting.

The team disassembled all of the old air handlers for removal and demolition. The next step included taking apart the brand-new handlers and hoisting them into the attic space for reassembly.

The air handlers each contained a preheat, hot water and chilled water coil. Our team removed all of the existing piping to its entry into the floor and then totally replaced and reinsulated the new piping. We also installed new ductwork transitions and electrical connections.

Once again, ColonialWebb demonstrated the value of planning and experienced field supervision while completing the challenging project on time and without any disruption to hotel operations.
