Manufacturing

Project:
American GFM, Chesapeake, Virginia

The Challenge:
American GFM is a modern manufacturing facility that produces highly specialized machine tools for heavy industry. The entire plant was air conditioned by 41 rooftop packaged HVAC systems, which needed to be replaced. Other concerns included an outdated control system and air distribution issues for the general office and engineering area.

ColonialWebb Contractors and two other companies offered proposals for renovation and ongoing maintenance service. Because the plant operates a continuous, multi-shift schedule, the winning contractor would have to complete the rooftop change-outs in one weekend shutdown.

Our Approach:
Due to the size and depth of our resources, ColonialWebb clearly had an advantage over the other contractors. Based on a detailed and thorough analysis of the best solution, ColonialWebb offered the winning proposal and earned the job.

Per our plan, we replaced the rooftop units successfully in a single weekend. We handled air distribution changes and installed VAV boxes and DDC controls while integrating them into a complete facilitywide HVAC system.

The plant continued its production with no additional interruptions during our work. Employees at American GFM now enjoy the benefits of a modern, energy-efficient HVAC system that we installed and now service.
