SAFETY LEADERS SPOTLIGHT - Anthony Bowers.jpg

At ColonialWebb, safety is a core value. It not only inspires us; it drives us to help keep our employees safe. As such, we are pleased to introduce our "Safety Leaders Spotlight" blog series. We know that the best safety cultures are led by leaders who have the courage to care. Over the next four weeks, we are excited to share our Safety Leaders with you and hear why they are so passionate about safety.

We'll start with our Health and Safety Director, Anthony Bowers. Anthony was born and raised in West Virginia, where he attained his Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety Engineering. In 2015 Anthony moved to Richmond, VA and began working for ColonialWebb. He is an authorized OSHA instructor as well as First Aid, CPR, and AED instructor. More impressively, however, Anthony recently achieved the status of Certified Safety Professional (CSP). CSP is the "gold standard" in safety certifications and indicates that Anthony has met rigorous educational, experience, and examination requirements for the safety profession. Way to go, Anthony!

Our health and safety culture is that of shared beliefs and attitudes, and every one of us believes that safety is the first focus of his or her job. Each year, we work nearly two million hours and travel nearly eight million miles, and it’s my calling to improve employee behaviors and influence organizational culture.
— Anthony Bowers

Leading a committed team of safety professionals that support operations across the ColonialWebb footprint, Anthony has big ideas and even bigger goals. Every single day he not only wants to ensure our employees return home safely to their loved ones, but he also wants to improve the overall quality of life for every employee.

If there's one thing Anthony is passionate about, it's mentoring, teaching, and coaching. Recently he gave a Fall Protection presentation at the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at VA Tech to a packed classroom of students and faculty who came to learn. His next speaking engagement will be at the 2019 Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Conference in September, where he will deliver a presentation on virtual reality safety training. Anthony serves on the Executive Board for the American Society of Safety Professionals, Central Virginia Chapter. He is active in his church and community. He enjoys competitive sports, being outdoors, and spending time with his friends and family.

We are proud to have Anthony on our team. It is his work ethic, passion, and integrity, which drives our continued success! In the coming weeks, stay tuned for more Safety Leaders Spotlight as we showcase the team that Anthony leads and the great things they are doing!
